Raiders sign veteran cornerback Starks

The Oakland Raiders signed veteran cornerback Duane Starks on Thursday, the second former New England defensive back they've acquired this week to bolster the secondary.
Starks was released by the Patriots on Feb. 25 after his lone season with New England ended in injury. He was placed on injured reserve Nov. 10 with a shoulder injury.
The Patriots acquired the 31-year-old Starks in an offseason trade with Arizona last year.

Oakland Raiders Strategy and Personnel

TEAM NEEDS 1. Guard: Steve Hutchinson was too expensive, Toniu Fonoti too heavy and Larry Allen too old ... but the Raiders need someone, fast. 2. Safety: Loyal fans are terrified Derrick Gibson will once again emerge as a starter alongside Stuart Schweigert. 3. Running back: Word is Najeh Davenport - a power back similar to veteran Zack Crockett - could pay a free-agent visit. FRANCHISE PLAYER: None. TRANSITION PLAYER: None.

Oakland Raiders Inside Slant

The Raiders added a quarterback with starting experience but weren't ready to proclaim him their new starter. Aaron Brooks agreed to terms with Oakland, which caused the team's fans to celebrate the official departure of Kerry Collins, the much-maligned former starter who remained a free agent and a looming threat to return. Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders are a professional American football team based in Oakland, California. They currently belong to the Western Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Legally, the club is a limited partnership operated by Al Davis, who serves as President of the team's general partner, A.D. Football, Inc.

The Raiders began play in 1960 as the eighth charter member of the American Football League after the ownership group from Minnesota withdrew from the AFL to join the NFL. The Raiders later joined the NFL themselves in 1970 as part of the AFL-NFL Merger. The team has won one AFL title and three Super Bowls.

In 1982, Davis moved the team from Oakland to Los Angeles, California and the club became known as the Los Angeles Raiders, but they moved back to Oakland in 1995.
